Freediving

23 freediving World Records

in the sea, lake, under the ice and with dolphins. This is the number reached to date by the Italian Freediver Simone Arrigoni.

He is engaged in many voluntary activities for disabled people, marine protection and safety at sea education.
He is ActionAid Ambassador and Honorary Member of the Center for Cetacean Studies.
From 2008 to 2016, he participated in a research project led by Sapienza University of Rome and in collaboration with marine biologists at Zoomarine Italia, to carry on scientific studies focused on Comparative Physiology of freedivers and dolphins.
From 2004 to 2017 he took part in the Italian sporting event Giochi del Mare (Sea Games).

He has been holding Safety at sea courses to students of primary and secondary schools (in collaboration with the Italian Coast Guard), to spread his slogan: Never alone!
It aims at reminding divers to never practice underwater activitis on their own for security reasons.

Arrigoni devised two new specialties of Dynamic Apnea:
- the Horizontal Free Immersion, in which the freediver covers a horizontal distance pulling on a rope, so that disabled persons can play this aquatic sport;
- the Dolphin's Breath, which consist of freediving with a monofin along a horizontal distance of predetermined length, periodically resurfacing to take a single breath of 1 second, and aiming at taking the lower number of single breaths as possible during the declared distance.
